Bollywood which originates from Hindi is the loose term popularly used for the Mumbai-based Hindi-language motion picture industry (Hindi cinema) in India. The term is frequently incorrectly used to relate to the whole of Indian cinema; when it is only a part of the Indian film industry. The name is a portmanteau (used broadly to mean a blend of two (or more) words) of Bombay (the former name for Mumbai) and Hollywood, the core of the American film industry (as most of us well know). Though some deplore the name, indicating that it makes the industry look like a mediocre cousin to Hollywood, it seems likely to prevail and now has its own entry in the Oxford English Dictionary.
